We see the Mean Green getting out to a big lead and bleeding clock in this one. First of all, UNT plays at the 2nd slowest tempo in the country. As far as offensive possessions go, they average 61 per game which is dead last in the nation. They will slow this game to a crawl which will result in very few possessions. On top of that, they played great defense ranked 31st in defensive efficiency and they rank #1 nationally allowing 55 PPG on the season. We see no way Alcorn State gets to 55 points. In fact, we’d be very surprised if they got out of the 40’s in this game. The Braves are a poor offensive team that ranks 346th (out of 363) in eFG%, 352nd in 3 point FG% and 327th in 2 point FG%. That’s despite facing a terrible slate of defenses in the SWAC with 8 of the 12 teams ranking outside the top 200 in defensive efficiency. In fact, the best defense they faced in conference play was Grambling who ranks 89th in defensive efficiency and that game ended with 123 total points. The Alcorn defense isn’t great by any means but they are facing a UNT offense that averages just 63 PPG (342nd nationally) and has topped 70 points just 8 times in 33 games this season.
