I like the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles to cover the spread as they visit the Kentucky Wildcats at Commonwealth Stadium in Lexington, Kentucky Saturday night.
The Golden Eagles are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 road games and 4-0 ATS in their last four games in September while the Wildcats are 1-7 ATS in their last eight games overall.
Southern Miss' QB Nick Mullens racked up nearly 4,500 passing yards with 38 touchdowns and 12 interceptions last year and he has a high-quality target in senior D.J. Thompson. The Golden Eagles also have a solid running game and Ito Smith ran for over 1100 yards and 10 TDs last year. They scored an average of 39.9 points per game, ranking them 13th in the Nation, and their D should be solid as always with many of the key defensive players returning.
The Wildcats meanwhile averaged just 24.7 points per game, placing them down at 95th overall. Sophomore Drew Barker will be their new starter under center. He played just five games last season, throwing for 364 yards with just one touchdown and two interceptions. They do have some good running game, but does not look strong defensively losing some big players on their defensive line compared to last year.
