Mike's Friday Night MLB *FALSE FAVORITE*
(MLB) Washington vs. Pittsburgh,
Money Line: 107.00 Washington (Away)
Result: Loss
Money Line: 107.00 Washington (Away)
Result: Loss
Play: Washington Nationals
Rating: 8*
I do not think the Pittsburgh Pirates should be favored over the Washington Nationals with this pitching matchup.
Sure, Washington's Gio Gonzalez (11-10, 4.48 ERA) got knocked around for six runs for the second time in three outings in Saturday's 7-3 setback at Atlanta, but he owns a 4-0 record and 2.81 ERA in seven career starts against Pittsburgh. The Nats are 4-1 in Gonzalez's last five starts overall and 5-0 in their last five Friday night games.
The Pirates have ironically sprung to life now when all their postseason hope is gone. They've won six of their past eight games, but notably just three of their last 16 home at PNC Park. Twenty-four year old rookie Jameson Taillon (4-4, 3.39) has a bright future, but his last outing was not one of his better when he gave up three runs on nine hits at Cincinnati.
The Nationals are 10-4 in the last 14 meetings and 6-0 in Gonzalez's last six starts vs. Pirates. This is a terrific price on the Nats as a dog on the road.
