San Diego has really come on strong this year with a 29-17 record. They are a virtual lock for the playoffs at this point and should be considered the “best second place team” in all of baseball. Only three teams have a better overall record and it’s only the first place Dodgers that have a better run differential. Off five straight wins, the Padres have outscored their opponents by an impressive 70-run margin so far. On Friday, they look to make it two in a row over the Giants, whom they defeated last night by a score of 6-1. San Francisco is in the playoff mix as well, only they are fighting for one of the last spots. They came into last night riding their own 5-game win streak, but are now just 1-3 vs. San Diego on the year. While the one win came with tonight’s starter Johnny Cueto on the mound, Cueto didn’t pitch all that well in the win. He gave up four runs in 3 ⅔. The Padres have scored the most runs in all of baseball. Their starter for tonight, Garrett Richards, is off his best outing of the season where he went seven innings and allowed just three runs with nine strikeouts against Oakland. Play on SAN DIEGO
