This is an 8* SLUG-FEST on the OVER between the Baltimore Orioles and the Toronto Blue Jays.
A couple of capable starters face off in the opener of this three-game set, but when the smoke does finally clear at the end of this one, I'm expecting the total to eclipse the number. This is a crucial series for both of these AL East leading teams. Toronto returns home after going 6-4 on a road trip, losing 6-1 to the Astros on Sunday; a game vs. division leading Baltimore is just what the doctor ordered to get motivated again though, the Jays sit four games behind the O's. So far the rivals have split ten meetings this year. The home side sends Mark Buehrle (11-7, 3.11 ERA) to the hill; Buehrle gave up one run over 6 2/3's innings in a 6-1 win over Boston on Wednesday. Unfortunately for Buehrle, he's never had much success against Baltimore, he'd give up four runs over 6 1/3's innings in a 4-2 loss on June 12th, dropping him to 1-4 with a poor 5.86 ERA vs. the club since the start of last year. The Orioles come in with momentum after beating Washington 7-3 yesterday and will counter with Bud Norris (8-7, 3.69 ERA) who went seven scoreless frames in his team's 1-0, 13-inning loss to the Angels on Thursday. While Norris has had success against Toronto in the past, I think he's going to have his hands full today in this very important opening contest; look for this one to go OVER the number as the game comes down the stretch.
