This is an 8* play on the New York Islanders.

The Isles have long been the bottom feeders of the NHL, but in recent seasons they've started to turn things around. This could be the year that they take that next step, moving from competitive to one of league's top teams. They certainly have the offensive firepower, leading the NHL averaging 3.9 goals per game.

Tonight they host a Winnipeg team that really struggles to put the puck in the net. The Jets are averaging fewer than two goals per game, ranking 28th in the league. A power-play that's clicking at rate of just 3.6% certainly isn't helping their cause. Winnipeg is really missing Evander Kane, who is due back soon after being sidelined with a knee injury, but we won't be seeing Kane tonight.

The Isles have won six of their last eight versus the Jets, and this year's team is a lot better that it was in any of those previous meetings. The Jets have lost four straight versus teams with a winning record, and they are 2-8 in their last 10 when coming off a win.

Take NYI.
