The Penguins have got off to a bit of a slow start this season, and they are just 2-2 at home so far. Don't expect that to last though, there's no reason to expect Pittsburgh to be any better or worse than they were last year. Sydney Crosby is still the best player in the NHL, and Geno Malkin isn't far behind.
Over the last two seasons, there hasn't been a better bet that Pittsburgh at home. They are 50-21 SU at home since 2013, and that gives us a pretty good indication that the price for tonight's game doesn't quite add up. If you would have bet $1000 on the Penguins in all of their home games the last two seasons at -$170, you would be left with a profit of +$12,500. Even at an average price of -$200, it would have still been profitable taking the Pens in all of those games.
The Devils as an opponent represent an average team at best, but New Jersey hasn't had a lot of success against Pittsburgh in recent seasons. The Pens have won eight of their last 10 home games against these Devils.
Another "red flag" would be the disparity in special teams play. The Penguins own the league's best power-play converting on 40% of their chances so far, while the Devils rank 30th overall on the penalty kill, with a kill rate of just 68%.
