Barry Trotz is in his first year as coach for the Washington Capitals, and he didn't have a lot of pleasant things to say about his players after they blew a 3-1 lead at home over the Coyotes on Sunday. You can expect a far better effort from the Caps tonight, as they host the Calgary Flames.
The Flames are off to a surprising start, but I think they are playing way over the heads. There just isn't a lot of talent on this team after Jarome Iginla left a few years ago and leading scorer Mike Cammalleri left this summer.
Alex Ovechkin broke out of a scoring slump with a goal and three assists in the loss to the Coyotes, and he's likely to get plenty of attention from Calgary defenders tonight. Braden Holtby should be back between the pipes tonight, after backup Justin Peters allowed six goals to the Coyotes. Holtby stopped 20-of-21 shots in a 3-1 win over Calgary earlier this season.
The Flames are just 1-6-1 in their last eight visits to the nation's capital.
