The Kentucky Wildcats take on the Kansas Jayhawks in the State Farm Champions Classic. The Wildcats dropped their first game of the season to Richmond 76-64, their last time out. They opened the season with an 81-45 win over Morehead State. The Wildcats lost a lot of last year's team to the NBA but it is nothing they aren't used to under Coach Cal. Brandon Boston Jr. is another big-name recruit that has come to Kentucky and plugged into the lineup. He has scored 15 and 20 points in the two games.
Isaiah Jackson has 15 points and 18 rebounds in his first two DI games.
Kentucky averaged 74.4 points last year, ranking them 92nd overall. They held opponents to 66.1 points, good for 81st in DI.
The Jayhawks are also 1-1 this season. They dropped their opening game to #1 Gonzaga 102-90. They came back with a 94-72 win over St. Joseph’s in their second game. Kansas looks to be a top team once again this year despite having to replace their top two scorers from last season.
Christian Braun has led Kansas by putting up 38 points combined in the two games including a 30 point outburst against St. Joe. Kansas averaged 74.6 points last season, ranking them 88th in the country. They held opponents to 60.7 points, good for 19th overall.
Coach Cal will have the Wildcats ready to play Kansas after the loss to Richmond. Kentucky has some outstanding talent and has two players in Brandon Boston Jr. and Terrence Clark who could go in the top 10 of the NBA draft. The Jayhawks’ defense is playing up to par as they are allowing opponents to shoot 48 percent in their first two games. The Wildcats feature great size and their rebounding can easily match up with Kansas who lost their top rebounder from last season. This should be a close game between two of the top teams in the country. Take the points.
