LSU is coming into this game off of a 10-3 season, but their season last year was still considered a failure by their standards. They had a great offense that averaged 45.5 points per game and was one of the better offenses in the country, but now they are going to be breaking in a new quarterback with Daniels gone. They have Garrett Nussmeier as their starting quarterback and he played very well in their bowl game last season, but this team still has big problems on defense. They were averaging 28 points allowed per game last season which is not very good and they had a lot of defensive talent on the team, but they have not been used to their full potential. They are going up against a USC team that is coming off of an 8-5 season which is awful by their standards. They had a great offense that was averaging 41.8 points scored per game last season, but their defense was awful as they were allowing 34.4 points per game as well. They are also going to have a new starting quarterback here with Miller Moss. Miller Moss did not play much last season but he played very well in their bowl game as he lit up a good Louisville team. The biggest problems for USC has been their defense as they took a step back as a team last season, but they have taken some measures to improve their defense this season. Lincoln Riley has never been known for his good defenses, but now they have hired Entz to be their linebackers and defensive coach and he is a very good defensive mind. He won 2 National Champions in the FCS with his recent tenure at North Dakota State and last season they had a defense that was averaging less than 20 points allowed per game. USC is going to have a very good offense with Moss taking over for Caleb Williams so they will be able to keep up offensively in a shootout here, but the key thing in this game is the defense as neither team has played well on defense in recent years, and USC has that edge with the coaching staff they have brought in to improve the team. USC will cover the spread in this game.
