The Panthers are coming into this game off of a 2-15 season and they were the worst team in the NFL last year by far. They went 1-10 under Frank Reich but were not any better when Chris Tabor took over, going 1-5 to end the season. Bryce Young struggled a lot last season and considering where he was as a starting quarterback in this league, he is not going to improve a lot this season. As much as he struggled last season, there were a lot of problems with this team, specifically on the offensive line and with their defense, but the offense also lacks a lot of weapons for him to utilize. They are going up against a Saints team that has a lot more quality on their roster and with Dennis Allen coming into the season on the hot seat, this is not a game he can afford to keep close. The Saints beat the Panthers at home last season 28-3 and they are going to be pushing for a similar kind of win here. Derek Carr is now in his 2nd season with the team and should have a better understanding of the system as he did get better near the end of last season, winning 4 of their last 5 games but missing the playoffs barely. They always have a vreative running game with Kamara and Hill being thrown in there, and he has plenty of talent to throw to as well. The defense is also returning key pieces and that has been one of their biggest strengths going back to last season. The Panthers are going to improve under their new head coach but they are not going to come out in this 1st game like a completely different team, especially in this hostile environment which is very tough to play in. The Saints defense is going to make this another difficult game for Young to move the ball in and the Panthers defense has not improved enough to keep this Saints offense at bay all game in their own house. The Saints will cover the spread in this game.
