The 49ers are coming into this game off of a season which they finished 12-5 and went to the Super Bowl, losing to the Chiefs in OT. The 49ers had one of the better offenses in the league last season, averaging 28.9 points scored per game which was 3rd in the NFL, but they also had one of the better defenses as they averaged 17.5 points allowed per game, also 3rd in the NFL. They are a very balanced team with offense and defense and they are going to be just as good this season with the pieces returning. Their offense was great at home as they scored 27+ points in 5 of their 8 games there, and they are going to have success moving the ball here with all of their weapons. They are going up against a Jets team that has a good defense, but they struggled a lot more on the road last season with points allowed. They also have a stronger defensive line this season, but the 49ers are very creative with the way they run the ball and will make it very difficult for the Jets to defend with the way they scheme. That is also going to open up the passing game for the 49ers and the secondary is an area on this Jets defense that can definitely be exploited. The Jets also have some weapons on their own offense though, and they will be looking to impress with Rodgers back healthy. Rodgers did not get to showcase his talent in a Jets uniform last season as his season ended very quickly in week 1, but this is a 49ers defense he has been familiar with throughout the years under Shanahan so he will know how to attack this team. The 49ers have some weaknesses on defense that Rodgers can exploit and he will be trying to impress in this prime time game since this is basically the Jets debut he never got to have last season. Both of these defenses are good but both will still have some kinks to iron out in this 1st game of the season and this total is too low for the talent on these two offenses. Between these two teams, there will be enough points in this game to push it over the total.
