New Mexico is coming into this game with a 3-0 record this season and they have been playing very well to start the year. They were a good team last season but they did struggle more in conference play. They are returning some players from last season, but they did lose a lot of key starters from that team as well. They have 2 home wins this season, beating Nicholls State by 7 and Texas A&M-CC by 19, and they also have a quality win in a neutral location against UCLA, beating them by 8 points when they were ranked at the time. Now they are playing another ranked team here, but this is also going to be their 1st true road game of the season. They are going up against a St. John's team that is 3-0 this season and they have been playing very well in their games. They have not faced any quality teams to start the season, but their games have not been very close either. They opened the season with a 32 point win over Fordham, followed that up with a 23 point win over Quinnipiac, and now they are coming off of a 21 point win against Wagner in their last game. Their offense has been great in these games as they have scored 90+ points in 2 of their 3 games, but their defense has also been good as they have allowed 60 points or less in 2 of their 3 games as well. New Mexico has won all 3 of their games this season, but their defense has not been as good as they have allowed 80+ points in 2 of their 3 games. St. John's was a good team last season, but they still fell short of their expectations. Now with Rick Pitino in his 2nd season coaching, he is going to have this team ready to step up this season. St. John's will cover the spread in this game.
