Now that the total has dipped below 7 at many sports books, I'm going to get involved with the Over.
Minnesota is an above average offensive team. The Yankees lead the majors in homers, are fourth in runs and fifth in OPS.
The pitching matchup is Joe Ryan versus Gerritt Cole. Ryan has pitched much worse since the All-Star break with a 4-4 record and 5.44 ERA in eight starts. Ryan has to deal with the hottest power hitter in baseball, Aaron Judge. The Yankee slugger is a prime MVP candidate with 54 homers. Judge has homered in his last three games.
Cole is well above average, but he's not the dominant force he has been in the past with a 10-7 record and 3.28 ERA. Like Ryan, Cole hasn't pitched as well coming out of All-Star break with a 1-5 record and 3.86 ERA.
Note that rain is in the forecast. So an extended rain delay may make it a short evening for the starting pitchers.
