For a number of different reasons I expect this total to eclipse the posted number as the game comes down the stretch. Pittsburgh has looked better offensively of late and plays with triple revenge today as it looks to avoid the four game season sweep at the hands of the Capitals. The Pens are most recently coming off a 4-2 win over St. Louis on Saturday, before a 5-1 victory over Florida on Sunday: "It doesn't matter what team we play. If we play right and play our game, we'll beat any team in the league," Pittsburgh forward Evgeni Malkin said last night. "We showed the last two games how we can play. We need to keep that same focus." Washington won't be rolling over though obviously, it sits just one point behind third-place Pittsburgh and is coming off a 3-2 SO win over the Islanders on Saturday. And from an O/U trend based stand point, this play is very strong as note that Pittsburgh has seen the total go OVER the number in interestingly ten of 16 this year after a win by two goals or more, while Washington has seen the total sail above the posted number in 17 of 28 vs. teams with winning records and in ten of 18 when playing with two days of rest. There are a ton of situational and trend based factors which indeed all point to the OVER as the savvy move in this one.
