With a couple of the World's best pitchers facing off in this interleague contest, I believe runs will indeed be at a premium and expect this total to sneak below the posted number once the smoke clears at the end of the night. Both teams are loaded with offensive talent, but each line-up now faces a daunting task; Masahiro Tanaka makes his first home start in nearly two months, throwing opposite Max Scherzer. Tanaka (3-1, 2.76 ERA) made his first start Wednesday after being out since April 23rd with injury and gave up one run with a season-high nine strikeouts over seven innings of a 3-1 win at Seattle. Note that Tanaka is 3-1 with a 1.53 ERA in four career interleague contests. Scherzer (6-4, 1.85 ERA) is 6-2 with a 3.04 ERA in eight lifetime starts vs. the Yanks. Look for these elite hurlers to battle into the latter frames and for this one to fall UNDER the number in the end.
