The Chicago Blackhawks took a 1-0 lead in this Western Conference first round series Wednesday as it defeated the Nashville Predators 4-3 in double overtime. Nashville was up 3-0 after the first period but let the Blackhawks back in the game with three second period goals. Chicago will come in more focused here knowing it can not afford to let the Preds run away with such a big lead again, and I think we'll see a low-scoring tilt at Bridgestone Arena tonight.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Corey Crawford Bounce Back - Crawford was chased off the ice after only one period over which he gave up three goals on 12 shots Wednesday. Scott Darling came in and kept a clean sheet, but Crawford is confirmed to be back between the pipes tonight regardless. He'll be poised for a big performance tonight, particularly with a hot Darling breathing down his neck.
2. Special Teams - One reason we saw a rather high-scoring game in the first meetings in the series was a total of three goals on the man advantage. Keep in mind though, Chicago's 17.6% on the power play during the regular season was the better mark of the two teams as Nashville scored on only 16.2% of its opportunities. The teams had six chances each on the power play the last game, but as it proved rather costly we should see more disciplined teams and less penalties tonight.
3. X-Factor - A Chicago win in its last game is a near guarantee for the total to stay under in its next game as it's showing a 11-2-3 mark over its last 16 such situations.
Selection: This is a play on CHI@NAS to go under the total(10*)
