Total: 5.50 | 115.00 Over
Result: Win
The Detroit Red Wings and the Tampa Bay Lightning are tied 1-1 in this Eastern Conference first-round playoff series after the first two games at Tampa Bay. Tonight they'll take the ice at Joe Louis Arena for the first of two games in Detroit where four of the last five meetings have gone under the total. I expect another low-scoring contest tonight in this key match-up in the series.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Ineffective Power Plays - While both teams did well on the man advantage during the regular season that counts for nothing in the playoffs. Neither team has been able to make the most of their chances so far with the Lightning scoring on two of 11 opportunities and the Red Wings on just one of their seven chances.
2. Situational/Motivational - With the series deadlocked at 1-1 this is a key match-up for both teams. Detroit has the possibility to consolidate the home-ice advantage it took from the Lightning with a win at Tampa, and will not be eager to give that up right away. Going a goal down and having to chase the game would be disastrous for both teams, and I think we can expect both coaches to have a cautious approach as they look to avoid conceding the game's first goal.
3. X-Factor - Only one of the Lightning's last 11 road games against a team with a winning record have climbed over the total and none of the Red Wings last five at home have gone over.
Selection: This is a play on TB@DET to go under the total .(10*)
