The Calgary Flames defeated the Vancouver Canucks twice on home-ice to take the lead 3-1 in this Western Conference Quarterfinals. They can put this series to bed with another win tonight, but I think the Nucks will come through and extend this series by at least another game.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Do Or Die For The Nucks - The home team is facing elimination at Rogers Center tonight. Perhaps Vancouver's defenseman Kevin Bieksa puts it best: "We go back home and we're a confident group when we've faced elimination before. The last one's the toughest one to win, so we go back home and we put everything we can into that one, try to get that game and then put the pressure back on them". If the Flames were to lose tonight they'll still have a 3-2 advantage in the series and a chance to eliminate the Nucks on home-ice Saturday. I don't see them coming out with the same urgency as the hosts here.
2. Road Woes - The Flames 2-1 win at Rogers Center in the series opener was a a rare one as they're 7-19 in the last 26 meetings in Vancouver. They've won only two of their last seven when facing a team with a winning home record while the Nucks have won four of their last five at home.
3. X-Factor - We could see Ryan Miller get the start in the Vancouver net as Eddie Lack was chased off the ice after allowing three goals on seven shots Tuesday. Miller came in and turned aside each of the 15 shots he faced. He's had decent success against he Flames this season as he was 2-1 with a 2.37 GAA against the Flames over three regular-season meetings.
Selection: This is a play on the Vancouver Canucks .(8*)
