The Oakland Athletics will be looking to salvage a split of this four-game set against the Minnesota Twins as they teams enter Target Field for the series-finale today. It won't come easy though against a surging Twins team that has won six of its last seven, and I think the hosts are looking good to spring an upset here.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Pitching - The A's will hand the ball to Drew Pomeranz (1-2, 4.61 ERA) who led his team to a win in his season-debut but the A's have lost all of his four starts since with the 26 year old giving up at least six hits in each game. He's been particularly poor on the road where he's 0-2 with a 6.46 ERA over three starts on the year and will face Minnesota for the first time in his career. The Twins will counter with Ricky Nolasco (1-1, 10.13 ERA) who lasted only three innings at Detroit on April 8 in his season-debut and was placed on the disabled list shortly after with an elbow inflammation. He was back in action Saturday and got the "W" in a 5-3 victory against the White Sox where he conceded three runs on eight hits over five innings. He's not faced the A's since June 29, 2011 but is 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA over two match-ups in his career.
2. Road Woes - Minnesota has a solid 11-5 record home at Target Field on the season and the A's are just 2-8 in their last 10 road games against a team with a home winning percentage greater than .600 and have lost six of Pomeranz's last seven starts away from home.
3. X-Factor - Danny Santana was 3-for-4 in last night's 13-0 win against the A's and is batting a respectable .280 for the season.
Selection: This is a play on the Minnesota Twins +1.5 (8*)
