The Kansas City Royals and the Cleveland Indians have split the first two of a three game set at Kauffman Stadium coming into the rubber-match tonight. The Indians are sending their ace to the mound still looking to be able to give him his first "W" on the year, and I think tonight's a good night to back them doing that.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Pitching - Corey Kluber (0-4, 4.62 ERA) will toe the slab for the Tribe taking the decision in three straight defeats and his team losing each of his six starts on the year. He was torched for six runs (four earned) on 10 hits over 6 1/3 innings against KC on April 27 but was 2-1 with a 1.15 ERA in four starts against the Royals last year and while form is temporary class is permanent and it's only a matter of time before Kluber is back to his best again. The Royals will counter with Edinson Volquez (2-3, 2.10 ERA) who has not faced the Tribe since 2011, but he owns a 12.19 ERA against the them for his worst mark against any opponent he has faced more than once.
2. Road Warriors - The Indians are 5-1 in the last six meetings in Kansas City and 4-1 in Kluber's last five road starts versus a team with a winning record.
3. X-Factor - The Royals Lorenzo Cain is on a five-game hitting streak but just 3-for-19 lifetime against Kluber and Alex Gordon is 5-for-27 with 10 strikeouts.
Selection: This is a play on the Cleveland Indians (10*)
