Point Spread: 1.50 | -175.00 Baltimore (Away)
Result: Win
The AL East-leading New York Yankees have won two one-run ballgames against their division rival the Baltimore Orioles to open this four-game set at Yankee Stadium. The visitors are coming in vastly underrated here, and I like their chances to come up with an upset and possibly crawl out of the last spot in the division.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Pitching - The Yankees will hand the ball to Chase Whitley (1-0, 0.75 ERA) who's off two quality start on the year conceding just one run on 12 hits over 12 innings. He was not quite as sharp last year though, posting a 5.23 ERA over 24 outings (12 starts) and struggled big time against Baltimore who smoked him for nine runs on 13 hits over just 5 2/3 innings. The Orioles will counter with Wei-Yin Chen who held the Yankees to just two runs on four hits over six innings earlier in the season. He's coming in with great momentum here, coming off two solid starts over which he's allowed a total of four runs on 11 hits over 14 innings of work.
2. Situational - Chen's last outing was in a 4-2 win against the Rays on May 3 and the Orioles are 7-1 in his last eight starts with five days of rest.
3. X-Factor - Baltimore leads the majors with a .318 batting average in day games.
Selection: This is a play on the Baltimore Orioles +1.5 (8*)
