The Los Angeles Kings have been a massive disappointment so far starting the season with back-to-back losses and their normally stellar defense has been nowhere to be seen. It's obvious that they need their offense to produce if they're to book their first win of the season when hosting Pacific Division rivals the Vancouver Canucks Tuesday, and I think we'll see a high-scoring game at Staples Center.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Jonathan Quick's Early Struggles - The Kings star netminder posted a 1.18 GAA while going 3-1-1 against the Nucks last season. He's really struggled over his first two games of the season though with a total of nine goals conceded and a lowly saving percentage of .833. He gave up four goals on just 22 shots against the expected bottom-feeder Arizona Friday.
2. Special Teams - Los Angeles gave San Jose and Arizona a total of 11 chances on the man advantage in its first two games, resulting in two goals conceded on the penalty kill. The Canucks were a top 10 power play team last season and we can expect them to take full advantage if a frustrated Kings team keeps taking unnecessary penalty minutes here.
3. X-Factor - The Nucks Ryan Miller had a 4.24 GAA with seven goals conceded over a pair of losses to Los Angeles last season. He might sit tonight as he started at Anaheim yesterday which would mean we'll see back-up Richard Bachman in net. Either way, Vancouver's goaltending situation could definitely be better from a situational perspective.
Selection: This is a play on VAN@LAK to go over the total (10*)
