Toronto Blue Jays (6*)
(MLB) Texas vs. Toronto,
Money Line: -174.00 Toronto (Home)
Result: Win
Money Line: -174.00 Toronto (Home)
Result: Win
The Toronto Blue Jays have shown terrific character and determination by coming back from a 2-0 deficit in the ALDS to force a fifth and deciding game home at Rogers Centre. They're coming in as hefty favorites, but who would bet against the Jays the way they've been swinging their bats lately? I think they'll prove to be well worth the price.
Here are my keys to the game:
1. Pitching - The Rangers hand the ball to Cole Hamels (13-8, 3.65 ERA) who conceded four runs on six hits over seven innings, not factoring in the decision, in Game 2 of the series. There are several Toronto batters with good numbers against Hamels, Edwin Encarnacion is 5-for-14 with a homer and Troy Tulowitzki 5-for-15. The Blue Jays counter with Marcus Stroman who was opposite Hamels in Game 2 of the series when he conceded four runs on five hits and two walks over seven frames. He was 2-0 with a 0.64 ERA in two home starts during the regular season and was a victim of some bad bounces early in Game 2.
2. Situational - It must be heartbreaking for the Rangers to open the series by taking two at Toronto only to lose back-to-back games home at Arlington. Toronto has all the momentum now and the teams are coming off a day of rest, something that should favor the Jays the most as they're 16-5 in their last 21 games following an off day while the Rangers are 2-5 in their last seven following an off day.
3. X-Factor - Kevin Pillar was 3-for-4 in Monday's 8-4 win and is 7-for-17 in the series. Toronto has a whole lineup full of clutch-hitters and literally every bat threaten to result in a homer.
Selection: This is a play on the Toronto Blue Jays (6*)
