Rogers' MLB Game of the Day (Day Game!) >> PERFECT 3-0 MLB This Week!
(MLB) Milwaukee vs. Chi Cubs,
Money Line: -207.00 Chi Cubs (Home)
Result: Win
Money Line: -207.00 Chi Cubs (Home)
Result: Win
The set-up: The Brewers won In Wrigley 6-3 on Monday but the Cubs rallied for a 9-7 win on Tuesday, snapping a four-game losing streak. Chicago's bullpen has been a concern early on but five relievers combined to allow one run over 5 1/3 innings on Tuesday and retire 15 of Milwaukee's last 16 batters. The loss was just the second of the Brewers' nine-game road trip which concludes Wednesday afternoon, before Milwaukee begins a 10-game homestand on Thursday. The 8-7 Brewers and 7-7 Cubs play the rubber match of this series today.
The pitching matchup: Lefty Tommy Milone (1-0 & 7.36 ERA) will be on the hill for the Brewers and the Cubs respond with Kyle Hendricks (1-1 & 5.73 ERA). Milone is taking the injured Junior Guerra's spot in the rotation (Guerra was the Opening Day starter but left the game with a calf injury). Milone held Cincinnati to three runs and six hits over five innings on Friday, although he did surrender a pair of HRs, while picking up his first win of 2017. Milone's first start of the season came against the Cubs back on April 8 in Milwaukee, when he allowed four ERs on nine hits over four innings, drawing a no-decision in an 11-6 Milwaukee loss (it's his lone career start vs. the Cubs). Hendricks led the NL with a 2.13 ERA in 2016 (was 16-8 on the season / team ws 19-11 in his starts) but will be pitching on regular rest for the first time this season (2 1/2 weeks in!). The hope is that it will lead to him having sharper command. He gave up four runs over six innings in a win at Milwaukee on April 8 (opposite Milone) and lasted just five innings while allowing three runs in a loss to Pittsburgh on Friday. Hendricks is 6-3 with a 2.47 ERA in 11 career starts against the Brewers (Cubs are 7-4).
The pick: This could be the last start for a while for Milone, as Matt Garza (right groin strain) is expected to return from the disabled list later this week. Hendricks pitched too well last year for the Cubs to be concerned about his slow start in 2017. Getting back on regular rest should help and expect the Cubs, last year's best home team with a 57-24 mark, to take the rubber game of this series against a Milwaukee team which finished 30 1/2 games back of the Cubs last season, while going only 32-49 on the road. Make Chicago a 6* play
