This is a 10* TOTAL OF THE WEEK on the UNDER between the Memphis Grizzlies and the LA Clippers.
We don't subscribe to any single handicapping methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account numerous different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Recognizing classic "spot bets" is something we always do as well, IE: the "look ahead" spot, the "let down" spot and the "trap" game. One set of criteria which we always use when making our decisions are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics.
This particular play is based primarily on strong/relevant O/U ATS statistics and common sense:
As note that Memphis has seen the total go UNDER the number in three of five this year already off an upset win as an underdog (hammered the Kings 115-96 in their latest action as a 2.5 point dog), while LA has seen the total go UNDER the number in three of four already this season after three or more consecutive victories.
The bottom line: This is the final game of a gruelling road trip of the Grizzlies, who have so far been alternating wins and losses through the first four games. With three whole nights off after this before returning to action on its home floor, clearly it's not too hard to imagine the Grizz putting a concerted effort on the defensive end of the floor as they look to avoid turning this one into a "track meet" with the high-flying Clippers. LA has won five of six and three straight, but could be caught "looking ahead" itself with the Thunder and Warriors coming to town respectively this week. When you add it all up, this number is indeed a little high. Play the UNDER.
