This is a 10* TOTAL EXPRESS on the UNDER between the Brooklyn Nets and the Portland Trailblazers.

We don't subscribe to any single handicapping methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account a bunch of different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Recognizing classic "spot bets" is something we always do as well, IE: the "look ahead" spot, the "let down" spot and the "trap" game. The actual contestants on the field of play rarely enter into our equation when making selections, unless it's a Top 3 player like a LeBron James or Aaron Rodgers etc. One set of criteria which we almost always use when making our decisions are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics. Sometimes these stats can be overrated and other times they help foreshadow the outcome of a contest.

This particular play is based on a couple of different factors:

Classic letdown spot: The Blazers have been surging, winners of five straight and 14 of their last 17. But after beating the Warriors 137-105 on Friday, followed by a 115-111 victory over Utah in which they had to overcome a 13-point second half deficit, there's no question in our minds that this one sets up as a letdown/look-ahead spot as Portland plays the lowly Nets today and can't help itself looking ahead to its game vs. Houston on Thursday.

Road woes: The Nets embark on a nine-game trip tonight, a place where they've dropped six in a row and in which they are just 4-19 overall this season. They've also lost 16 of their last 19 in Portland.

ATS statistics: Note that Brooklyn has seen the total go UNDER the number in eight of ten this year after playing to three consecutive home games and in 15 of 23 on the road overall, while Portland has seen the total dip below the posted number in five of eight after playing three consecutive home games and in 10 of 18 non-conference contests.

The bottom line: We foresee a drop off in production from the home side and combined with the Nets overall ineptitude on the road and these strong and relevant Over/Under ATS statistics, all signs do indeed point to the UNDER as the savvy move in this contest.
