Even the best team in the major leagues has a losing streak now and then, and the Cubs snapped a four game skid with a win in Game 2 in Miami. The rubber match goes this afternoon, and I like the Cubs take advantage of an inexperienced Miami pitcher here.
Paul Clemens will toe the slab for the Fish, and he's making just his second start of the season. The 23 year old right-hander allowed three runs on seven hits and three walks over five innings in a loss to Colorado in his debut. Putting 10 men on base in five innings isn't likely to cut it against the Cubs today.
Chicago will hand the ball to John Lackey, who has been having a fine season. Lackey (7-3, 2.78 ERA) allowed three runs on seven hits over six innings in a home loss to the Cardinals his last time out. His day/night splits are quite encouraging, with a record of 4-0, 1.26 ERA in five starts in the afternoon. He's also 1-0 with a 2.19 ERA against Miami since 2013.
The Cubs are 73-33 in their last 106 games versus a right-handed starter.
