Rogers' NFL Sunday SMACKDOWN >> 15-9 This Week!
(NFL) Atlanta vs. Philadelphia, 11/13/2016 8:00 AM, Score: 15 - 24
Point Spread: -1.00 | -102.00 Atlanta (Away)
Result: Loss
The set-up: The Philadelphia Eagles got off to a surprising 3-0 start led by some excellent defensive play (Eagles allowed a total of just 27 points) and the better than expected play of QB Carson Wentz. The NFL's second overall pick completed 63.5% of his throws for 769 yards in Philly's 3-0 start, tossing five TDs without an INT in 104 pass attempts. However, The eagles get set to host the Atlanta Falcons with four losses in their last five. The Falcons are off to a 6-3 start, due the an offense leading the NFL with 33.9 PPG, on 429.2 YPG (2nd), including 315.0 YPG passing (2nd).

Atlanta: The Falcons opened 5-1 in 2015 but then collapsed, finishing 8-8. The Falcons are determined to not experience any déjà vu here in 2016. If QB Matt Ryan isn't the NFL's first-half MVP, he's close, completing 69.6% with 23 TD passes and just 4 INTS for a QB rating of 119.0 (only Brady is better at 133.9). WR Julio Jones has 51 catches, averaging 19.0 YPC and has five TDs. Fellow WR Mohamed Sanu has 37 catches, including three TDs plus RBs Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman are both receiving threats out of the backfield. Coleman (234 yards rushing with 5 TDs and 19 catches with one TD) is out with a hamstring injury this week but Freeman has been the most productive of the duo, with 620 yards (4.7 YPC) with three TDs, while adding 28 catches with two TDs. The Falcons have needed their explosive offense, as the Falcons' D ranks 28th by allowing 28.8 PPG on 381.1 YPG (26th).

Philadelphia: The City of Brotherly Love was quick to embrace its current QB after Wentz led them to a 3-0 start but he's thrown in mostly subpar performances in the team's current slide of four losses in five games. Wentz has just two TDs and four INTs in his last four games, with QB ratings of under 80. 0 in three of the four. The Eagles have averaged 25.2 PPG (10th) but they rank 27th with a modest average of 225.6 passing YPG. The defense has not been able to match its great start (9.0 PPG in opening 3-0) but all in all, ranking 7th in points allowed (18.1 per) on 325.5 YPG (6th), is pretty good.

The pick: The Eagles are a perfect 3-0 SU & ATS at home but the team's slump is real. Philadelphia has failed to reach 24 points in any of their last four games, while failing to reach 300 yards of total offense in three of those four. The Eagles have lost two starting OL, lack a big time RB and only have one WR (Jordan Matthews with 42 catches) who can challenge a defense. The Falcons are just the fourth team in the last 25 years to top 30 points in six of their first nine games and come in with a few extra days of rest, having played on Thursday in Week 9. Atlanta is 4-1 SU (5-0 ATS) on the road and the Falcons are too good for the Eagles in this one. Atlanta is an 8* play.
