I like what I have seen out of these Seattle Mariners as they come in playing better-than-expected baseball to begin the season. They sit at 7-7 and dropped their last 2 so I expect them to be primed here today.
A lot of that has to do with the fact they have done it on the defensive side of the baseball, an area where you can find tremendous value with this Mariners team.
Texas right-hander Tanner Scheppers (0-1, 7.88) has gotten off to a rough start in his first season as a starter, allowing five or more runs in two of his three outings. On Saturday, he surrendered five runs -- all in the fourth inning -- over seven frames in a 6-5, 10-inning home loss to Houston.
They are also missing couple key guys early on that were expected to put up some big numbers for them this season. Combine that with a few others getting off to slower-than-expected offensive starts, and you see a Rangers team ranked towards the bottom of the league in home runs with just 7 overall.
Take the visitor here on Thursday afternoon with the Seattle Mariners.
