Carolina opened their season by taking down Columbus 4-1 at home on Wednesday night with a solid defensive effort. The Hurricanes may be on the road here for the first time this season but that's not a bad thing. They get a San Jose team who hasn't played in six days and spent the first couple games of the season in Prague, where they lost two straight to Nashville to open the year. We saw how flat Nashville was Thursday night in their first game on North American soil as they were shut down by Dallas. San Jose has plenty of holes both in their offensive attack and in their own end of the ice. James Reimer is a capable goaltender but he can't do everything on his own. Carolina has too much firepower for a Sharks team that is still trying to get their footing under them after playing in Europe. The Canes ruin the Sharks' home opener by prevailing in this contest.
