FOOTBALL SEASON IS BACK, and it's easy to be tempted to bet on preseason games, though I typically avoid them. When betting preseason football the depth of teams matter most, as it's a given that backups get more run than the starters. Coaching plays a huge part in how I factor bets this early in the season too. In this matchup, the wrong team is favored, as the Raiders have the more established coach (Josh McDaniels), better depth at QB (Nick Mullend and Jarrett Stidham), and better Skill position depth (Rookie RB Zamir White, Brandon Bolden, Tyron Johnson, Keelan Cole, Demarcus Robinson). I don't see the Jags giving their starters much run at all, given the recent injury histories of Etienne, James Robinson, Evan Ingram, and Laviska Shenault. So it's likely to be mainly the younger backups to play most in this matchup, and more than the backups for the Raiders. Luton and CJ Beathard are the backup QBs too..... so no thank you!
Raiders or nothing in this Preseason game 1, and I also lean under 30.5 because of the defensive youth that both teams invested in during the draft / offseason this year, and the fact that all the backup QBs in this matchup are game managers and not even subpar arm talents, so expect alot of "Hand-offs" to the running backs.
