Total: 49.50 | -105.00 Under
Result: Loss
Total: 49.50 | -105.00 Under
Result: Loss
Betting Trends: The under is 13-9 in South Carolina's 22 home games under head coach Shane Beamer. It is 7-1 in USC's last eight games dating back to last season.
There's plenty to like about the under at 49.5 in Saturday's LSU-SC game.
The Tigers have kept Garrett Nussmeier upright through two games, but they will have their hands full with a Gamecocks defense that has ten sacks (2nd-most in the nation), 19 tackles for loss (9th-most) for 104 TFL yards and six forced fumbles (two recovered). Their ability to generate pressure up front has boosted the secondary too, as South Carolina has four interceptions and ranks 14th in passing yards allowed (120.5 per game). All this has helped the Gamecocks earn a +2 turnover margin, the 8th-best in the FBS.
LSU's offense hasn't exactly wowed yet, either. The unit features several new faces, as QB Jayden Daniels, WRs Malik Nabers and Brian Johnson Jr., and RB Logan Diggs are all gone. Nussmeier was efficient against Southern Cal but only averaged 7.9 yards per completion and threw a pick. In last week's game against FCS Nicholls, LSU didn't pull away until the third quarter, as the score was 23-21 late in the second half. The Tigers struggled to get a push up front, rushing for 64 yards on 21 carries (3.2 YPC). With pressure in his face, Nussmeier will be in for a challenge against a South Carolina secondary that is loaded with talent at safety and features veteran cornerbacks.
On the other side of the ball, the Gamecocks pose less of a threat. The offensive line has already allowed eight sacks (third-most nationally), which has been an issue for a long time. They have given up 103 over the last three years, including 41 last season with 92 tackles for loss. South Carolina managed just 252 total yards at Kentucky and appears too one-dimensional offensively to score frequently against the Tigers, who held the Trojans to 69 rushing yards in week one and have plenty of size up front.
