This is an 8* play on the UNDER between the New York Knicks and the Memphis Grizzlies.

While we are primarily a situationally based handicapping service, we don't prescribe to any one single methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account a bunch of different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Recognizing classic "spot bets" is something we always do as well, IE: the "look ahead" spot, the "let down" spot and the "trap" game. The actual contestants on the field of play rarely enter into our equation when making selections, unless it's a Top 3 player like a LeBron James or Aaron Rodgers etc. One set of criteria which we almost always use when making our decisions, are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics. Sometimes these stats can be overrated and other times they help foreshadow the outcome of a contest.

This particular play is based on a few different factors:

Injuries to significant players on both sides: Injuries include game time decisions for New York in Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis and Mike Conley for the Grizzlies. If these players do happen to play, they won't be functioning at 100% capacity and therefore, their overall effectiveness will clearly be diminished in this one.

Over/Under ATS statistics: Note that New York has seen the total go UNDER the number in three of four this year off an upset loss as a favorite and in three of four when playing with two days rest, while Memphis has seen the total dip below the posted number in 10 of 17 this season when playing against a team with a losing record, in both games after playing to three or more consecutive OVERs and interestingly, in all six games that have landed on a Saturday.

The bottom line: Significant injuries lead to a lack of chemistry, which in turn leads to a slower paced affair and a slower game = less shots and less shots = less points. All signs do indeed point to the UNDER as the savvy move in this contest.
