This is a 10* ART OF WAR on the UNDER between the Detroit Pistons and the Denver Nuggets.
While we are primarily a situationally based handicapping service, we don't prescribe to any one single methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account a bunch of different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. The actual contestants on the field of play rarely enter into our equation when making selections, unless it's a Top 3 player like a LeBron James or Aaron Rodgers etc. One set of criteria which we almost always use when making our decisions, are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics. Sometimes these stats can be overrated and other times they help foreshadow the outcome of a contest.
This particular play is based on a few different factors:
Motivated visiting side: The Pistons are coming off a 115-99 loss at New Orleans on Thursday, a setback which Stan Van Gundy called "deplorable" after the team gave up 72 first half points. "In the first half we played nine guys. I thought one guy put out a good effort defensively," Van Gundy continued. "Aron Baynes tried hard and I thought the other eight guys virtually put nothing into it on anything."
Inconsistent offensive play: Despite a couple of noteworthy wins of late, the home side is still just one of 11 teams in the league which is averaging fewer than 100 points at 99.4.
ATS statistics: Note that Detroit has seen the total go UNDER the number in seven of 12 this year following a loss by ten points or more, while Denver has already seen the total stay below the posted number in five of eight this season after playing to three or more consecutive OVERs.
The bottom line: When taking into account the factors listed above, all signs do indeed point to the UNDER as the savvy move in this contest.
