We don't subscribe to any one single handicapping methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account a bunch of different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Recognizing classic "spot bets" is something we always do as well, IE: the "look ahead" spot, the "let down" spot and the "trap" game. The actual contestants on the field of play rarely enter into our equation when making selections, unless it's a Top 3 player like a LeBron James or Aaron Rodgers etc. One set of criteria which we almost always use when making our decisions, are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics. Sometimes these stats can be overrated and other times they help foreshadow the outcome of a contest.

This particular play is based on a few different factors:

Letdown spot for the visitors: After firing David Blatt, the Cavaliers would then go on to lose 96-83 to Chicago on January 23rd. Since then though the team has won four straight including a signature 117-103 victory over San Antonio on Saturday, a game in which the Spurs were favored by two. It's not too hard to imagine Cleveland coming in a bit complacent in this one.

If history is any precedence: We can expect a war tonight, these teams have routinely played each other extremely hard, the UNDER is 6-4 the last ten in the series.

ATS statistics: Note that Cleveland has seen the total go UNDER the number in 15 of 17 after a non-conference game and in 15 of 24 on the road, while Indiana has seen the total stay below the posted number in 13 of 20 following a non-conference game, in 11 of 16 after scoring 105 points or more and in 13 of 21 vs. teams with winning records.

The bottom line: The situation and trends all point to this total being a little bit high, play on the UNDER.
