We don't subscribe to any one single handicapping methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account a bunch of different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Recognizing classic "spot bets" is something we always do as well, IE: the "look ahead" spot, the "let down" spot and the "trap" game. The actual contestants on the field of play rarely enter into our equation when making selections, unless it's a Top 3 player like a LeBron James or Aaron Rodgers etc. One set of criteria which we almost always use when making our decisions, are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics. Sometimes these stats can be overrated and other times they help foreshadow the outcome of a contest.

This particular play is based on a few different factors:

Downward spiral: Southern Illinois has fallen apart of late, losing four in a row. Every loss during its slide has been by at least seven points. Its 14 point loss at home to Loyola, a team which was 3-8 in conference, is inexcusable and shows just how far this team has fallen in the last two weeks. Note that the Salukis were man-handled in that one, allowing the Ramblers to shoot 55 percent from the floor.

On the door step: Indiana State is also coming off a game which it should have had, falling 63-58 to Bradley, who was 1-10 in the MVC. It was a horrible shooting night for the Sycamores, but note that this is a spot in which the team has performed very well in for bettors, going 7-2 ATS in all home games.

ATS statistics: Note that Southern Illinois is a poor 3-5 ATS this year as an underdog and 0-3 ATS after scoring 60 points or less, while Indiana State is 11-3 ATS this season vs. teams with winning records.

The bottom line: These team's both have more questions than answers right now, but home court advantage and the rest of the factors listed above do indeed tip the scales in favor of INDIANA STATE.
