AAA's 10* TOTAL OF THE WEEK - +$21,455 NHL RUN!
(NHL) Los Angeles vs. NY Islanders,
Total: 5.00 | -137.00 Over
Result: Loss
This is a 10* TOTAL OF THE WEEK on the UNDER between the LA Kings and the New York Islanders.

We don't subscribe to any one single handicapping methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account a bunch of different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Recognizing classic "spot bets" is something we always do as well, IE: the "look ahead" spot, the "let down" spot and the "trap" game. The actual contestants on the field of play rarely enter into our equation when making selections, unless it's a Top 3 player like a LeBron James or Aaron Rodgers etc. One set of criteria which we almost always use when making our decisions, are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics. Sometimes these stats can be overrated and other times they help foreshadow the outcome of a contest.

This particular play is based on a few different factors:

Natural letdown spot for the visitors: After routing Boston 9-2 on Tuesday, scoring more goals in a road game in nearly 23 years, we think the Kings will naturally have a bit of a letdown offensively in this one.

Formidable penalty kill: The Kings may be on fire with the man advantage the last few games, but New York is second in the league overall in penalty kill, posting an 86.8 percent rate.

If recent history is any precedence: Note that these teams played on November 12th, a 2-1 victory for the Kings. Suffice it to say, we're expecting a similar final outcome here as well.

Expect a battle: These clubs lead the NHL in hits per game, the Isles at 30.3 and the Kings at 29.3.

Over/Under ATS statistics: Note that LA has seen the total go UNDER the number in six of ten this year after a victory by two goals or more, while New York has seen the total dip below the posted number in 15 of 25 this season when trying to revenge a loss vs. an opponent.

The bottom line: When taking into account all of the above factors, all signs do indeed point to the UNDER as the sharp move in this contest.
