Total: 215.00 | -107.00 Over
Result: Loss
This is a 10* TOTAL ART OF WAR on the UNDER between the Boston Celtics and the Denver Nuggets.

We don't subscribe to any one single handicapping methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account a bunch of different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Recognizing classic "spot bets" is something we always do as well, IE: the "look ahead" spot, the "let down" spot and the "trap" game. The actual contestants on the field of play rarely enter into our equation when making selections, unless it's a Top 3 player like a LeBron James or Aaron Rodgers etc. One set of criteria which we almost always use when making our decisions are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics. Sometimes these stats can be overrated and other times they help foreshadow the outcome of a contest.

This particular play is based on a few different factors:

Both teams stumble out of the gates: After averaging 113.1 points during a 10-2 run into the break, the Celtics fell flat in a 111-93 setback at Utah on Friday, shooting just 37 percent overall, while going 7 of 25 from beyond the arc. Boston also looked uncharacteristically bad on the defensive end of the floor, allowing the Jazz to shoot 54.4 percent: "We can't make excuses, everyone had a layoff," Boston guard Isaiah Thomas assessed afterwards. "We were just slow to everything offensively, and defensively we just weren't there. Every time we play like that we end up losing and somehow we have to change that." Denver also looked out of sorts in its first game back from the break, falling 116-110 at Sacramento on Friday. The 70 points they gave up to the Kings in the first half was second only to the 74 they'd give up to the Warriors on November 6th: "We are not good enough to defend for two quarters. It has to be for 48 minutes. We did not do that (Friday) and that's disappointing," Denver coach Mike Malone said.

ATS statistics: Note that Boston has seen the total go UNDER the number in five of six road games this year when the total in the contest is greater than or equal to 210, while Denver has seen the total stay below the posted number in 40 of its last 75 non-conference contests.

The bottom line: Both teams have been burned by shoddy defensive play of late. Clearly each will be putting an added emphasis onto the defensive end of the floor tonight. All signs do indeed point to a more methodically paced contest and for this one to fall UNDER the posted number.
