This is a 10* TOTAL ART OF WAR on the OVER between the Chicago Bulls and the Miami Heat.

We don't subscribe to any single handicapping methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account a bunch of different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Recognizing classic "spot bets" is something we always do as well, IE: the "look ahead" spot, the "let down" spot and the "trap" game. The actual contestants on the field of play rarely enter into our equation when making selections, unless it's a Top 3 player like a LeBron James or Aaron Rodgers etc. One set of criteria which we almost always use when making our decisions are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics. Sometimes these stats can be overrated and other times they help foreshadow the outcome of a contest.

This particular play is based on a few different factors:

Blood in the water: Miami will be looking to push the pace of this one from the outset, it welcomes the newly acquired Joe Johnson into the mix for his first home game tonight vs. this wounded Bulls team which is on the bubble as far as the playoffs are concerned. Johnson had 12 points on 5 of 10 shooting in his debut, a 98-91 Heat win over New York on Sunday. Note that Johnson's 86 3-pointers made this year are five more than Miami's top 3-point shooter Chris Bosh, who remains out with blood clots in his legs.

Desperate Bulls: Chicago won't be simply rolling over today though, since moving to within 2.5 games of the Cavaliers on January 7th, the Bulls have gone just 8-16 since to fall into an eighth-place tie with Detroit and Charlotte. Chicago also plays with revenge today after falling 89-84 on January 25th, the lone game in the series so far this season.

ATS statistics: Note that Chicago has seen the total go OVER the number in five of eight this season when playing with two days rest and in 14 of 22 following a non-conference game, while Miami has seen the total eclipse the posted number in six of ten this season after allowing 85 points or less.

The bottom line: Most will be expecting an extremely low-scoring game, but we feel that the value has now swung the other way and that the situation lends itself to a much more wide open and faster paced affair. Play on the OVER.
