We don't subscribe to any single handicapping methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account a bunch of different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Recognizing classic "spot bets" is something we always do as well, IE: the "look ahead" spot, the "let down" spot and the "trap" game. The actual contestants on the field of play rarely enter into our equation when making selections, unless it's a Top 3 player like a LeBron James or Aaron Rodgers etc. One set of criteria which we almost always use when making our decisions are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics. Sometimes these stats can be overrated and other times they help foreshadow the outcome of a contest.

This particular play is based on a few different factors:

Home sweet home: Ottawa has taken the first three of this season series and it's totaled 15 goals in winning three straight at home over the Leafs. The Sens will be especially motivated here as well after falling to 0-2-1 following a 6-2 setback on Florida on Thursday. They'll also be out to avoid matching a season-worst four-game home slide: "I think we all know that we're going to have to win games to give ourselves a chance and it's going to force us to do things sometimes that you normally don't do," defenseman Erik Karlsson said.

Looking ahead to next year: The Leafs come in contented, they just broke an 0-5-1 slide with a 4-3 shootout win over the Islanders on Wednesday; note that Toronto has already turned to its younger players to give them a shot in the big leagues.

The bottom line: We see no need to overanalyze this one; Toronto is simply going through the motions at this point, while Ottawa is still in the playoff hunt and will be looking to atone for a couple of poor performances. In our professional opinion, this is indeed the very definition of "great line value." Play on OTTAWA.
