We don't subscribe to any single handicapping methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account a bunch of different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Recognizing classic "spot bets" is something we always do as well, IE: the "look ahead" spot, the "let down" spot and the "trap" game. The actual contestants on the field of play rarely enter into our equation when making selections, unless it's a Top 3 player like a LeBron James or Aaron Rodgers etc. One set of criteria which we almost always use when making our decisions are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics. Sometimes these stats can be overrated and other times they help foreshadow the outcome of a contest.

This particular play is based on what we feel to be two key factors:

Important game: Just over a month and a half left in the regular season, but this is still an important game for both teams. Cleveland is in first place in the East, but sits just 2.5 games ahead of the Toronto Raptors, while LA is in fourth in the West, only 1.5 games behind the Oklahoma City Thunder. When these teams played on January 21st, the Cavs pulled away for a 115-102 victory, but tonight's contest is going to have a "playoff-like" atmosphere. All signs point to more of a chess match than a run-and-gun shootout.

ATS statistics: Note that Cleveland has seen the total go UNDER the number in 17 of 24 this year after a non-conference game and in nine of 15 after allowing 105 points or more. while LA has seen the total dip below the posted number in 21 of 32 home games and in 14 of 23 following a non-conference contest.

The bottom line: What's the first thing that comes to mind when you think about these two clubs? For us it's dynamic offensive players. However, after taking into account these two sets of key factors listed above, all signs do indeed point to the UNDER as the sharp move this time around.
