The George Washington Colonials won their first six games of the season and ten of their first 11, including victories over Virginia, Tennessee and Rutgers. The Colonials escaped with an 82-80 victory over Hofstra in the first round of the NIT and then followed it up with a 16-point drubbing of No. 1 seed Monmouth. George Washington then benefited in being able to host the higher ranked Florida Gators, whose arena is under renovation, pulling away for a five-point victory in that one. The Colonials then smashed SDSU 65-46 in the semi-final round, Tyler Cavanaugh led the way with 20 points and 11 boards. Valparaiso finished the Horizon League with a 16-2 record and a regular season conference title. The Crusaders would lose to Wisconsin-Green Bay in the semifinals of the conference tournament and then were snubbed for the NCAA tourney. Instead of crying about what could have been, Valparaiso has made the most of its No. 1 seed in the NIT, the Crusaders have easily handled Texas Southern, Florida State, Saint Mary's and BYU by an amazing 41 points combined. These are two capabale teams, anchored by a couple of solid offensive units. This number seems a little low, play the OVER.
