This is a 10* American League TOTAL OF THE MONTH on the UNDER between the Oakland A's and the Detroit Tigers.
A couple of competent hurlers square off in the opener of this series and when the smoke clears at the end of this one, we're expecting this total to sneak below the posted number. Oakland was rolling along until a trip to Toronto over the weekend, a 7-0 road start would end in back-to-back defeats, including Sunday's 6-3 setback. Tigers' starter Jordan Zimmermann will look to add to the A's frustrations, he's been lights-out for his new team so far, he has 15 K's while limiting batters to a .211 average over 19 1/3's scoreless innings during a 3-0 start. Most recently Zimmermann would scatter seven hits to go along with eight K's over 6 1/3's innings in his team's 3-2 win at Kansas City on Wednesday. The visitors counter with Kendall Graveman (1-1, 2.04 ERA) who allowed two runs or less for a third straight start in a 5-2 win over the Yankees on Wedensday, striking out eight and giving up one run over 6 1/3 dominant innings of work. Note that in his only start against the Tigers, Graveman allowed three runs over six innings in a 5-3 victory last season. And that's bad news for Detroit, which has totaled only five runs while batting a paltry .144 over a four-game losing skid (Justin Upton is 1 for 12 during the slide, slugger Miguel Cabrera is 0 for 11). We're looking for these starters to battle into the latter innings and for this total to indeed go UNDER the number.
