This is a 10* TOTAL BLOCKBUSTER on the UNDER between Clemson and Alabama.
We don't subscribe to any single handicapping methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account numerous different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Recognizing classic "spot bets" is something we always do as well, IE: the "look ahead" spot, the "let down" spot and the "trap" game. One set of criteria which we almost always use when making our decisions are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics. Sometimes these stats can be overrated and other times they help foreshadow the outcome of a contest.
This particular play is based primarily on strong/relevant O/U ATS statistics and common sense:
As note that Clemson has seen the total go UNDER the number in four of five non-conference games this year, while Alabama has seen the total go UNDER in four of five in the same position.
The bottom line: Alabama will look to control this one while on offense so as to keep DeShaun Watson and the Tigers' dynamic offense off the field for as long as possible. Watson had a hell of a time against the Tide defense in 2015 and this year's unit is even better. This one sneaks UNDER once it's all said and done.
