This is a 10* EASTERN CONFERENCE TOTAL OF THE YEAR on the UNDER between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Columbus Blue Jackets.
We don't subscribe to any single handicapping methodology, but instead feel that being flexible with ones approach is the best way to secure profits over the longterm. Sometimes we keep it simple, while other times we'll take into account numerous different factors, like motivation, scheduling and significant injuries. Recognizing classic "spot bets" is something we always do as well, IE: the "look ahead" spot, the "let down" spot and the "trap" game. One set of criteria which we always use when making our decisions are Against The Spread (ATS) statistics.
This particular play is based on a few different factors:
As note that Pittsburgh has seen the total go UNDER the number in three of its last four after a three-game unbeaten streak, while Columbus has seen the total go UNDER in 13 of its last 23 after scoring four goals or more and in two of three after three or more losses.
The bottom line: Can the Blue Jackets bounce back and win four straight against the Pens? Probably not. But we can rest assured that the team will be risking life and limb tonight in trying to get into shooting and passing lanes as it tries to stave off the inevitable. All signs point to the UNDER as the savvy move in this contest.
