Total: 10.00 | -115.00 Over
Result: Loss
This is an 8* SUPER TOTAL on the UNDER between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Atlanta Braves.
Both teams have been playing to some higher-scoring affairs of late, but we think tonight's contest will sneak below this sky-high number.
Nick Pivetta: He's 0-2 with a 5.14 ERA and is being recalled to make this start. Pivetta struggled over his first four starts in the big leagues, posting a 5.12 ERA, 1.81 WHIP and 21:9 K:BB ratio over 19.1 innings of work. Pivetta has been a beast in Triple A though, posting a 1.41 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 37:2 K:BB over 32 innings. Pivetta is expected to see extended time in the rotation this time around.
Bartolo Colon: He's 2-6 with a 6.99 ERA. Most recently Colon gave up nine runs (only two earned!), off seven hits over three innings in a 9-3 loss to the Angels on Tuesday. All the runs came in the third frame, as three straight errors saw 11 Angels get on base.
The bottom line: Surely 2017 is the "swan song" for Bartolo Colon and while there's no defending in how poorly he's pitched this year, we'll point out that the Braves have seen the total go UNDER the number in three of their last four against division opponents, while Philadelphia has seen the total go UNDER the number in three of its last four against teams with losing records. We think Pivetta will run with this opportunity and perform a lot better in his second chance. This number is just a little high, play the UNDER.
