This looks like a good spot to back the Pittsburgh Pirates on the RL as they look to complete a a four-game sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals. It's tempting to play the Bucs at big plus-money, but my database tells me that taking the extra run is yelding a better ROI for this situation.
Tyler Glasnow will make his major leagues debut as he takes the mound for Pittsburgh Thursday afternoon. Glasnow is 7-2 with a 1.78 ERA while punching out 113 hitters over 96 innings in 17 starts with Triple-A Indianapolis this year. A terrific prospect that is catching the Cardinals at a good time for his debut as the already banged up Cards most likely will be without their only All-Star, second baseman Matt Carpenter, who suffered a right oblique injury in yesterday's game.
Adam Wainwright (7-5, 4.70 ERA) takes the ball for St. Louis. He tossed seven scoreless innings against Milwaukee his last start but had been torched for six runs on 10 hits in five innings by the Royals his previous outing. He's 0-1 with a 4.38 ERA in two starts against Pittsburgh this season and current Pirates are batting a combined .303 against the right-hander.
The Pirates have won seven straight to climb half a game ahead of the Cardinals in the NL Central standings. Take the run in what should be a close game between the division foes.
