Play: Detroit Tigers
Rating: 8*
We won with the Kansas City Royals as the AL *Game of the Week* on Saturday, but I'm switching side to recommend a play on the Detroit Tigers on Sunday afternoon.
Michael Fulmer (9-2, 2.11) is enjoying a spectacular rookie season for the Tigers. The splits couldn't be more favorable for the 23 year old today as he's 2-0 with a 1.04 ERA in three starts at Comerica Park and 4-0 with a 1.74 ERA in five afternoon starts.
The Royals turn to Yordano Ventura (6-7 , 5.15 ERA) who has lost his last three starts. The 25 year old has been out of rhythm ever since serving an eight-game suspension and I don't like his chances of turning in a good performance today. Ventura is 2-5 with a 5.67 ERA in nine road starts this year and 2-2 with a 4.55 ERA in five day starts.
Tigers are 8-1 in their last nine games vs. a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30. The Royals won last night's contest 8-4, but the Tigers are 8-0 in Fulmer's last eight starts when their opponent scores 5 runs or more in their previous game while KC is 0-4 in its last four after scoring five runs or more in their previous game.
