Play: Minnesota Twins
Rating: 8*
A 21-13 stretch have seen the Minnesota Twins climb out of the American League basement. They enter Tuesday's meeting with the Houston Astros high on confidence after a 3-1 win in the series opener last night, and this looks like a great price on the red hot Twins.
The reeling Astros meanwhile have just two wins in their past 11 games, and they'll hand the ball to Mike Fiers (7-5, 4.34 ERA) tonight. Fiers is 1-2 with a 5.83 ERA in nine outings (eight starts) on the road this season. The right-hander is coming off three consecutive quality starts, but the Astros lost still lost two of these contests and they're 2-5 in Fiers' last seven starts following a quality start in his last appearance.
Minnesota turns to newly acquired Hector Santiago (10-5, 4.37) who lost to Cleveland in his debut with Minnesota when he gave up four runs and five hits through five innings of work. He owns a respectable 3.69 ERA in 10 career appearances (eight starts) against the Astros though and held them to one run and three hits in 6 1/3 innings in a no-decision on June 21.
Jose Altuve received his first day off this season yesterday. He figures to be back in the lineup tonight, but we can note that he's just 4-for-20 in previous meeting with Santiago.
